AirAbove privacy information Updated 17 September 2026
AirAbove requires no account and includes no advertising or analytics SDK. Flight requests go directly from your Mac to the providers, not through an AirAbove server.
Location and network requests When you enable Location Services, macOS supplies a location after your permission. You can instead choose a custom location. The selected latitude, longitude and radar radius are sent to ADSB.lol, or adsb.fi when the primary provider fails. Coordinates are not rounded before transmission and can describe a precise location. Each provider also receives your IP address and an application User-Agent.
adsbdb receives aircraft callsigns for route lookup. Planespotters.net receives aircraft registration or hex identifiers. Wikimedia Commons receives aircraft search identifiers. Photo hosts receive requests for selected image URLs. Apple MapKit handles map imagery and location searches, including map regions and search text, under Apple's privacy practices.
Provider retention Third-party providers operate their own services and logs. AirAbove cannot clear those logs. ADSB.lol states that temporary logs are retained for less than 30 days. We do not promise that requests to other providers are anonymous or immediately deleted. Opening source or attribution links uses your browser and the destination site's privacy practices.
Local storage Preferences, including the selected location, stay in local settings. Live aircraft and session statistics stay in memory. Successful routes are cached locally until the next UTC midnight. Commons photos and credits are cached locally with expiry and a 100 MB budget; Planespotters photos are held only while their tile is displayed. Clear downloaded images removes this process's image caches and legacy HTTP-cache entries. It does not erase preferences, routes, or provider logs. The app and system screensaver can have separate storage.
Controls Choose a custom location to avoid using device location, revoke location permission in macOS System Settings, and quit the app or stop the screensaver to stop its polling. No advertising identifiers are requested and AirAbove does not combine activity across services for advertising.
